AEROLIV: Digital Companion for Respiratory Condition Management for Trudell Medical International
Trudell Medical International manufactures leading COPD and respiratory devices. What they needed was a digital ecosystem to support the patients using them — a companion that could automate medication management, connect caregivers, and make living with a respiratory condition genuinely simpler. That became AEROLIV.
The Challenge
A World-Class Device. No Digital Support System.
TMI's respiratory devices were clinically excellent. But patients using them — managing COPD, asthma, and other respiratory conditions — were navigating their treatment largely alone once they left the clinic. Medication reminders were manual or nonexistent. Tracking adherence across multiple medications required effort that many patients simply could not sustain. Caregivers managing multiple patients had no centralized view. And the real-time data that smart devices could capture was going nowhere.
TMI wanted to extend their product from a physical device into a full digital ecosystem — one that would support patients through their daily treatment journey, give caregivers real-time visibility, and connect the device’s data to the people who needed it most.
Managing a respiratory condition is not a one-time event. It's a daily routine — and the app had to make that routine effortless.
The Solution
AEROLIV: A Free, Full-Featured Respiratory Management App
The [x]cube LABS team designed and built AEROLIV, a free mobile application for iOS and Android that gives patients a complete digital system for managing their respiratory health. The app connects directly to TMI's smart pumps via Bluetooth, syncing medication intake data automatically and eliminating the need for manual logging.
AEROLIV handles the full daily treatment workflow: automated medication reminders, session tracking, real-time vitals sharing with caregivers, and onboarding that connects caregivers with multiple patients from a single account. Integrated pollination metric data gives patients environmental context for their symptoms, helping them anticipate and prepare for higher-risk days.
Bluetooth Pump Connectivity
AEROLIV connects to TMI's smart pumps via Bluetooth, syncing medication intake and session data automatically without manual input from the patient.
Medication Reminders & Session Tracking
Automated reminders for every scheduled treatment, with session logging that builds a complete medication history accessible to patients and caregivers.
Real-Time Vitals Sharing
Patient vitals captured during treatment sessions are shared with caregivers in real time, enabling remote monitoring of medication adherence and health indicators.
Multi-Patient Caregiver Management
An intuitive onboarding flow allows caregivers to manage multiple patients from a single account, with individual dashboards and alerts for each patient.
Pollination Metrics Integration
Real-time environmental data (pollen levels, air quality) is integrated into the app, giving patients context for their symptoms and helping them anticipate difficult days.
Cross-Platform iOS and Android
AEROLIV is available on both iOS and Android, ensuring patients and caregivers can use the platform regardless of device.
The Outcome
Patients in Control. Caregivers Connected. Compliance Improved.
AEROLIV gave TMI's patients something their devices alone could not provide: a complete support system for their daily treatment journey. The digital ecosystem extended TMI's relationship with patients beyond the point of purchase, and gave caregivers the real-time visibility to intervene when patients needed support.
Automated Medication Management
Patients received timely reminders and automatic session logging, reducing missed treatments and improving adherence without added effort.
Caregiver Connectivity
Caregivers could monitor multiple patients simultaneously with real-time data, enabling faster response to adherence gaps or health events.
Extended Product Ecosystem
AEROLIV transformed TMI's physical device into a connected health platform, increasing product value and deepening patient engagement beyond the hardware.
Environmental Awareness
Pollination metrics gave patients actionable environmental context, helping them proactively manage symptoms on high-risk days.
