Simplifying the Journey of New Mothers with Digital Innovation for Lansinoh
Lansinoh has supported breastfeeding mothers for 35 years. When they approached [x]cube LABS to build their next-generation baby tracking app, the challenge was clear: create a digital experience as thoughtful and reliable as the physical products their customers already trusted.
The Challenge
Tracking a Newborn's Routine While Running on No Sleep
New mothers face a uniquely demanding set of challenges in the first weeks and months of their baby's life. Feeding schedules, pumping sessions, diaper changes, and sleep patterns all require tracking — and all require attention at moments when the mother's own capacity for attention is at its lowest. Initial research revealed that beyond tracking, new mothers were also navigating sleep deprivation, anxiety, limited breastfeeding knowledge, and postpartum recovery simultaneously.
The [x]cube LABS team worked alongside the Lansinoh team through a design workshop to map each problem to a specific solution. The resulting application — Lansinoh Baby App 2.0 — had to be intuitive enough to use during a night feeding with one hand, informative enough to give mothers real insight into their baby's routines, and integrated enough to talk directly to the smart pumps Lansinoh's customers were already using.
The app had to be simple enough to use at 3am, one-handed, with a baby in the other arm. That is the standard it was designed to meet.
The Solution
A Holistic Tracking Platform Built Around the Mother's Real Day
The [x]cube LABS team built Lansinoh Baby App 2.0 as a complete daily companion for new mothers. The app connects directly to Lansinoh's Smart Pumps via Bluetooth, automatically syncing pumping session data without requiring manual input during sessions. Feeding, bottle, and diaper tracking can be logged quickly, with the dashboard surfacing trends and patterns that help mothers — and their healthcare providers — understand what is and isn't working.
The app was built for iOS using Swift and for Android using Kotlin, with a Java and Node.js backend running on AWS, using Lambda, Appsync, Cognito, CloudWatch, and DynamoDB to provide the scalability and reliability a global consumer health app demands.
Bluetooth Smart Pump Connectivity
Direct Bluetooth integration with Lansinoh Smart Pumps syncs pumping session data automatically — duration, volume, timing — without interrupting the session.
Comprehensive Feeding Tracker
Logs breastfeeding, pumping, and bottle feeding sessions with timing, duration, and volume, building a complete daily feeding picture for mother and healthcare provider.
Diaper and Output Tracking
A simple, low-friction interface for logging wet and dirty diapers, with the data surfaced in daily trend views to help mothers identify patterns in their baby's health.
Reminders and Missed Session Alerts
Configurable reminders for pumping, feeding, and other routine sessions, with missed session alerts that help mothers maintain supply and schedule without constant mental tracking.
Dashboard and Timeline View
A clear daily dashboard and timeline view that surfaces trends, totals, and changes at a glance, giving mothers the insight they need without requiring them to analyze raw data.
Insights into Baby and Mother Routines
Pattern recognition across feeding, output, and pumping data that helps mothers understand their baby's rhythms and their own milk production trends.
