Context
The world’s first sleep tracker came into existence with the intent to bring the latest in sleep science to the community, so the world sleeps well and lives better. The client wanted to create a device, engineered on a sleep conditioning technique, that is proven to increase sleep quality by making people fall asleep sooner and reduce wakeful through the night.
They wanted an app that can restructure sleep cycles and patterns by rhythmic monitored interruptions and help their customers track their sleep. When they approached [x]cube LABS with their requirement, they expressed confidence in getting the solution right, considering our proven record in delivering top-notch connected product solutions and more. With our expertise in digital strategy consulting and connected products, we delivered exactly what they had hoped for.
The Problem
The client was looking for a solution that was more than just a wearable device. As we brainstormed further, we realized the problem lies in engaging the customers better. We needed to come up with a solution that gives them a broad overview of their sleep cycle. They would want to track if there was an interruption in their sleep, how much improvement do they feel after starting to use the product and much more. There was an obvious need to deliver an engagement platform that makes customers feel more in control of their sleep cycles and encourage their proactive involvement.
The Challenges
The sleep conditioning therapy that was limited to laboratory practice, was being transformed into an app. This required a high level of precision compared to any other wearable device. The integrated solution to be designed was not just an IoT solution, but a seamless amalgamation of intricate engineering, connected product development and an effective customer engagement strategy.
Our engineers, equipped with methodologies such as design thinking process to discover needs, a lean approach to problem-solving and an agile development model for solution delivery, took up the task confidently and delivered a solution that not only complemented the innovative device but added value to it.
The Solution
We delivered an application that successfully restructures sleep cycles and patterns by rhythmic monitored interruptions. The application syncs the ring via Bluetooth and allows the device to run independently and generate sleep tracking reports at the end of the session. By monitoring device induced vibrations and interruptions during sleep cycle, it provides insights on mental responsiveness to resting.
Key features
- Setup: Enables users to create an account or log in to the previous account and connect to the device.
- Re-train: Allows users to easily customize their sleep training program and view reports based on that.
- Power nap: Users can manage Power Nap sessions based on available time.
- Sleep tracking: Allows users to track their sleep so they do not miss their night sleep data.
- View sleep data: Allows users to view a consolidated infographic report on their sleep.
- Others: Allows users to manage their profile, add a new device, calibrate vibrations on their device and participate in sleep quizzes.
- Technologies used: Android, iOS and IoT
The Result
The result was the most advanced wearable for sleep that not only tracked sleep but also improved it significantly. Published insomnia research from the scientists demonstrated that on average, users experienced a 28-minute reduction in time awake, 30-minute reduction in sleep onset latency and 67-minute increase in total sleep duration.
